On My Mind

GOD bless the exes!

Okay so I know this may sound weird but I am really thankful for my past loves.

No seriously. (Stop laughing and/or giving me the side eye.)

I was tweeting yesterday about understanding your personal love language. Your love language (by my definition) is the way you show love. It can also be the way you best receive love.

I have found that the most clear way that I show love is by devoting time to someone. Time is one of the things that is most precious to me. I have a ton of responsibilities and a ton of activities that can swallow my entire calendar. When I really love someone, I start to carve time out of my schedule just simply to be with them.

It is also important for me to know and accept that I am not always a very affectionate person. Cuddling is awesome. Depending on the set of lips and skillset behind them, I could take or leave kissing. I do not care much for public displays of emotion or affection.

I could go on but that is enough of that.

So why am I so thankful for my exes?

I am thankful because those relationships have taught me those things and more about myself. I have been able to figure out my love language based on past experiences. I have also polished and repaired problematic areas based on where things have gone wrong in the past. Breakups have been painful but at some point I was able to see it for the lesson that it is.

So…

Don’t hate your ex!
Thank your ex!

If it weren’t for them you wouldn’t have learned more about yourself and moved down the road to actually finding the perfect person for you.

And the best part…

(in my opinion)

Is that they don’t get to benefit from it.

At least in my world. Turtleberry doesn’t move backwards!!!

Now, take a moment to figure out your love language. I am certain that it will help make your next relationship better than you last.
